Longitudinal damage of cable-stayed bridges subjected to near-fault ground motion pulses

Abstract This paper investigated the nonlinear seismic performance of an existing cable-stayed bridge longitudinally subjected to a set simulated near-fault ground motion pulses. An elaborated non-linear finite element model was established which particularly considered cable sag effect, material nonlinearity tower and deck. Through dynamic response analyses, responses tower, deck cables were evaluated at yield ultimate state structure. In particular, structure defined in text based on damage levels structural integrity requirement. It is revealed that pulse period ( T p ), by determining relative contribution multiple modes structure, strongly affected process As close first vertical vibration deck, largely excited so might prior failed suffered most despite yielding tower.
